John (Dr. Miklos), in many ways
your innovations defy traditional teaching and I think that this make some people uncomfortable, especially since it challenges their own convictions and skill levels. The fact that you have been able to be so successful outside the bounds of academics medicine probably has something to do with it as well.
The bottom line is that your work has raised the bar for surgical excellence in our field for everyone else, including myself.
