Dr. Robert D. Moore is an internationally recognized Laparoscopic and Vaginal Reconstructive Surgeon who has operated on patients from all over the US and the world and is one of the first board certified urogynecologists. He is widely known throughout the world for his pioneering techniques in minimally invasive vaginal reconstructive surgery and more recently in the field of sexual medicine and aesthetic vaginal surgery. He has received prominent awards in his field including being named to Castle Connolly “Top Doctor Award” 2013, Americas Best Doctors List in 2011/2012 and Consumers Research Council Americas Top Ob/Gyn list (for Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery) for 5 consecutive years.
Dr. Moore originally received his medical degree with top honors from the University of New England in 1994. While at the University he was involved with neurologic and neuroscience pain research, receiving multiple grants and publishing in this complex field. He completed his residency in Ob/Gyn at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME and then completed a two-year fellowship in Urogynecology and Radical Pelvic Surgery at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Following this, he completed another year of advanced training in Laparoscopic Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He has also completed advanced training in the field of Aesthetic Vaginal Surgery and recently co-authored, with his partner, Dr. John Miklos, the first comprehensive book on Vaginal Rejuvenation and Cosmetic Surgery for women as well as the FIRST chapter ever published in a major medical textbook on Vaginal Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Moore is currently the Director of Advanced Pelvic Surgery and the Co-Director of Urogynecology at the Atlanta Center for Laparoscopic Urogynecology, the Vaginal Rejuvenation Center of Atlanta and Atlanta Medical Research, Inc. In January of 2012, Dr. Moore, along with Dr. Miklos expanded their busy Atlanta practice to Los Angeles, California and opened the Beverly Hills Center for Laparoscopic Urogynecology. Dr. Moore has held and continues to maintain national and international teaching appointments. He has partnered, published and completed research with prominent investigators and surgeons from centers such as Harvard University, the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and University of Rome.
Dr. Moore continues to be very active in clinical research and new innovations in the field of Urogynecology including mesh technology and minimally invasive techniques to treat prolapse and incontinence. He and his partner Dr. John Miklos recently published the largest series in the world on Laparoscopic Sacralcolpopexy and surgeons from throughout the world come to Atlanta to learn this technique from them at their center. In 2009, Dr. Moore was the first surgeon in the U.S. to perform the Anterior Elevate procedure (a mesh procedure to treat cystocele and vault prolapse through one small vaginal incision) and has travelled the globe operating and teaching this new technology that he helped develop. He is currently the Principal Investigator in the U.S. in the Multicenter Trial evaluating the long-term results of mesh repair for cystocele and was picked to lead this team of investigators from 10 centers in the United States including gynecologists, urologists and urogynecologists. The two-year results were just published in the International Urogyn Journal with Dr. Moore being the lead author and he will present the 5 yr data at the international FIGO meeting in Rome Italy in the Fall of 2012.
Dr. Moore was also the Co-Principal investigator, with Professor Jaquetin from France, of the AMS Monarc TOT sling worldwide trial leading more than 20 centers across the world. Most recently Dr. Moore was principal investigator of the first multicenter trial in the world to evaluate the Mini-Arc Mini-Sling and is considered a worldwide leader in this new procedure. He has published more than 100 scientific journal articles, book chapters and research abstracts. Recently in Italy, he was the chairman of the IUGA Post-Graduate course on Vaginal Mesh procedures and published one of the largest reviews on the topic in the Scientific World Journal. Dr. Moore has traveled throughout the United States and in the last year has taught over 300 surgeons new techniques in Incontinence and Prolapse surgery at Universities and Major Hospitals in Miami, Alabama, San Francisco, Memphis, LA, Boston, NYC, Chicago, Houston as well as many others. Over 100 surgeons a year travel to Atlanta to observe and learn from him and his partner Dr. John Miklos in their operating room. He has traveled to and been invited to lecture/operate/teach in Finland, Norway, Hungary, India, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Turkey, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Russia, Taiwan, Poland and late in 2009 toured Australia operating and teaching more than 100 of Australia’s leading surgeons. In 2010/2011 he traveled, taught and operated in Dubai, Colombia (SA), Argentina, Austria, India, England, New Zealand, Australia and Russia. 2012 has been another busy traveling year, as Dr. Moore has traveled to Colombia (SA), Puerto Rico, Argentina/Uruguay, and Italy (October 2012).
Dr. Moore is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG) as well as the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and International College of Surgeons (FICS). In 2013, he became one of the FIRST Board Certified Urogynecologists through The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Inc., and it's Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS). He is member of the American Association of Gyn Laparoscopists, American Urogynecology Society, International Urogynecology Association, and the American Urologic Association and a Fellow of the The Royal Society of Medicine, London, England. He is also the Executive Editor-in-Chief of the Online Journal of Urology.
